Sologarnacha

El Pastor y El Foro

Garnacha was the predominant grape in Rioja Baja until no more than 30 years ago and with our single-varietal, Arizcuren SoloGarnacha, we aim to spotlight this varietal’s superior expression on the northern slopes of the Sierra de Yerga, as well as its particular suitability for cultivation in this area. To achieve this, we worked some of the few remaining old Garnacha vines, to produce a wine that would showcase not just the grape but the training system used (goblet), and location (the Yerga mountain range) and could help to reverse the unfortunate “desertification” of this area’s historic Garnacha vineyards.

Because we want this wine to be an expression of both the variety and its location, no additives are used in its production (except for a small amount of sulfur) and wood has been used purely for stabilisation purposes, with minimal impact on the flavour profile.

The grapes come from two vineyards with similar soil characteristics and age: El Pastor, at an altitude of 550m, and El Foro, at 600m . Both are between 40 and 60 years old and are planted at high density, in sandy soil, with pockets of clay found at varying depths.
